Membership terms and conditions

This page should be read in conjunction with the information on our legal information pages.

This section details the terms and conditions under which you are applying for your RNIB Bookshare UK education collection organisation membership from us. Please read them carefully. They will help you to get the best from us and to know what to do, if for any reason you are unhappy with any aspect of our service.

From the initial date you apply online from us, we expect that you have read and accepted RNIB Bookshare UK education collection terms and conditions, as outlined here and on our legal information pages, and that you are agreeing to access RNIB Bookshare UK education collection membership subject to these terms and conditions.

Definitions

  • Membership” of RNIB Bookshare UK education collection allows a Primary Contact, Sponsor or Member to download curriculum resources, including textbooks, from our online catalogue for use by or in order to support print-disabled learners.
  • A “Primary Contact” is a registered user who has been granted a RNIB Bookshare UK education collection organisation membership. As the owner of the Membership they are responsible for the management of the Membership and the correct use of all downloaded Resources.
  • A “Sponsor” is a member of staff at the organisation, who has been added to the Membership group by the Primary Contact, therefore being granted rights to download resources and also had Members to the Membership.
  • A “Member” is a learner at the organisation, who has been added to the Membership group either by the Primary Contact or a Sponsor, therefore being granted rights to download resources.

Your rights as customer

We follow all the appropriate legislation and codes of practice which govern consumer sales in the England. You can expect fair, honest and professional service from us and we encourage you to provide feedback so that we can keep improving.

Statutory rights

None of our terms and conditions affect your statutory rights and if any part of these terms and conditions is not valid or cannot be enforced in whole or in part this will not affect any other part of these terms and conditions. These terms and conditions are governed by the law of England and both parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

Membership

Membership of RNIB Bookshare UK education collection allows a Primary Contact, Sponsor or Member to download curriculum resources, including textbooks, from our online catalogue for use by print-disabled learners. A guide to Print-disability definitions is available.

A Membership, obtained by a Primary Contact, is open to education professionals supporting print-disabled learners with a valid registration who are able to show that they are eligible to download within RNIB Bookshare UK education collection’s Copyright Terms and Conditions.

At the discretion of the Primary Contact, any number of Sponsors within their organisation may download curriculum resources from the Membership. Both the Primary Contacts and Sponsors can add Members, providing them with access to download. The Primary Contact is responsible for the correct use of all downloads from the Membership and for removing non eligible Sponsors and Members from the Membership group.

Account details

Membership will only be activated on accounts where all details have been entered fully and correctly to meet with Copyright requirements. We reserve the right to close accounts where the details are not completed correctly.

Membership will only be activated on accounts that provide a valid school/organisation email address.

Membership activation

We reserve the right to cancel Membership where the criteria laid out in our Terms and Conditions is not met. Activation of valid organisation membership applications can take up to three working days.

Cancelling your membership - UK organisations

Your free membership is for a 12 month period. If you are no longer eligible and wish to cancel your free RNIB Bookshare UK education collection membership, please contact us.

You will need to provide the following information:

  • Primary Contact account contact name
  • Primary Contact account email address
  • reason for cancelling your organisation’s membership.

Cancelling your membership - overseas schools

RNIB Bookshare UK education collection complies with all trading legislation including the Distance Selling Regulations. Therefore, you have the right to cancel your order before your Membership has been activated. If you wish to do this we will refund you the price of the Membership.

Memberships purchased by non-UK based schools are for a 12 month period. Refunds will be given for the number of full months remaining in the 12 month Membership. If you are no longer eligible and wish to cancel your free RNIB Bookshare UK education collection membership, please contact us.

You will need to provide the following information:

  • Primary Contact account contact name
  • Primary Contact account email address
  • reason for cancelling your organisation’s membership.

Refunds for overseas schools

You will be sent a confirmation email detailing your RNIB Bookshare UK education collection Membership cancellation request and the refund amount due to be paid. This will be followed by a credit note. Cheque and BACS refunds are issued once a week.

Refund example: If you took out a Membership at £80 in January and decided to cancel it and request a refund in July, you would be refunded the money for five months membership. This is worked out as £80 divided by 12 months, equals £6.66, times five months, equals £33.30. Refunds will not be granted if you have used all of your downloads, or have 20 per cent or less, of downloads remaining on your balance.

Liability

We will not be liable to you for any indirect, special or consequential loss or damage (whether for loss of profits or otherwise), costs, expenses which arise out of, or in connection with, us selling you any goods. Any liability we do have to you will be limited to the price of the goods.
