RNIB Bookshare replatforming FAQs

Exciting changes are coming! Our RNIB Bookshare website is getting an update later this year. We are contacting customers as changes happen about any actions needed by Primary Contacts, Sponsors (education staff) and members (learners).

We have put together some questions and answers that will help you,  if you have any queries you can contact us at edcollection@rnib.org.uk.

1. How do I update my account?

Please log into your RNIB Bookshare account and check that your details are correct and be sure to save. If your details are correct there is no need to act, and you are all set! If you have students (members) or staff (sponsors) that you want to add/remove to/from your account, you will have to manage this on your RNIB Bookshare account as our team cannot access your schools/organisations account.

2. Why are we changing?

The current website is built on a platform called Drupal 7. This will no longer be supported by the software provider after January 2025, so we need to move the service to a new web platform to ensure continued support.

3. What changes will we notice?

We are aiming to make the re-platforming as straightforward as possible so that you notice only minor changes. There may be some slight design differences, but functionality wise you should still be able to perform the same tasks as you do on the current website.

4. How are we contacting students?

We cannot currently contact students as we do not collect student email addresses, due to data protection rules. We will ensure that anyone with an account is notified via the website to the best of our abilities and we will respond to any queries we receive in a prompt fashion. As we are a small but mighty team, we kindly ask that you allow 3-4 working days for queries to be addressed.

5. Will students be able to log in to the new website using their current details?

Some of the details of the development are still being decided. We will be in contact with you as soon as we know how logins to the system will be affected and how this will affect student accounts. This is why it is important to make sure your details are correct on the system.

6. Do I need to do anything right now?

  • If you would like to delete your organisations account, you can follow the link in the email sent on 22nd May and request the account deletion. You may need to check your junk mail folder if you don't think you have received this email.
  • If you need to make changes to your account, please contact your account's primary contact.
  • If you need to amend student details, please contact your account's primary contact.

7. Will my account be deleted?

If your account has not been used to download a book within the last 4 years, the account will be labelled as dormant and will not be reactivated in the new system. To avoid this, please log-in to your account and download a book.

If you regularly use your account, don't worry, it will not be deleted. Please make sure all your organisation details are up to date.
