Reliability Engineering for Industrial Processes: An Analytics Perspective (Springer Series in Reliability Engineering)

by P. K. Kapur Hoang Pham Gurinder Singh Vivek Kumar

This book explores how transformative changes driven by the new-age economy can bring about improvements in a company's engineering and manufacturing capabilities. The new-age economy is driven by advanced engineering and manufacturing practices, processes, and technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), and Internet-enabled systems to automate industrial processes. Today's business dynamics are governed by uncertainties, disruptions, complexities, and ambiguities that demand quicker and more intelligent decisions. These changes could relate a renaissance in the company's engineering and manufacturing capabilities. To sustain these volatile and ever-changing business dynamics, Industry 4.0 and 5.0 have revolutionized how organizations operate and make intelligent business decisions. Moreover, the extensive role of business analytics has overcome the limitations ofclassical computing through new technologies and intelligent computing methodologies. Over the past few years, much emphasis has been given to investing in developing hardware and programming frameworks for achieving computational intelligence using fuzzy logic, evolutionary computation, neural networks, probabilistic methods, and learning theory. Within this frame of reference, the reliability, quality, and maintenance of complex industrial and manufacturing systems are essential for organizations to utilize them successfully for informed decisions. This book focuses on studies that provide new solutions for system reliability, quality, security, and maintainability using quantitative and qualitative research. It emphasizes developments and problems in systems engineering management, systems integration, software and hardware engineering, and the development process.

Simenon: Ermittlungen, Existenzen, Atmosphären (Kriminalität in Literatur und Medien #5)

by Hermann Doetsch Wolfram Nitsch

The Right Move: A forced proximity, fake dating sports romance from the TikTok sensation and bestselling author of MILE HIGH (Windy City Series)

by Liz Tomforde

Discover the #BookTok sports romance series everyone is talking aboutRYANShe's a distraction, that's what she is.I'm the newest Captain of the Devils, Chicago's NBA team, and the last thing I needed this year was for Indy Ivers, my sister's best friend, to move into my apartment. She's messy, emotional, and way too tempting. But when the team's General Manager vocalizes his blatant disapproval of my promotion to Captain, referring to me as an unapproachable lone wolf with no work-life balance, I can't think of a better way to convince him otherwise than pretending to date my outgoing roommate. The only problem? Faking it feels far too natural.Having a fake girlfriend wasn't supposed to be messy but having Indy under my roof and in my bed is complicated, especially when she wants all the romantic parts of life that I could never give her.INDYI never imagined I'd be living with my best friend's brother, NBA superstar Ryan Shay. Even more unbelievable? He needs me to act as his loving girlfriend who's suddenly changed him into a friendly and approachable guy.Because, well . . . he's not. He's controlling of his space and untrusting of others. Our arrangement isn't one-sided, though. I'm in a wedding coming up, one where every one of my childhood friends, including my ex-boyfriend, will be in attendance, and there's no better date than my ex's celebrity hero.Blurred lines make it almost impossible to separate real from fake. Falling for my roommate was never part of the deal, especially when Ryan is quick to remind me that he doesn't believe in love.I'm a romantic and can't help fantasizing that he'll change, but soon enough, I find myself questioning if sharing a roof with my best friend's brother was the right move after all . . .

Global Civil Society and China (Elements in Global China)

by null Anthony J. Spires

This Element traces the history of and recent developments in the unstable relationship between global civil society (GCS) and China. It analyses the normative impacts GCS has had on China – including the Chinese state and domestic civil society – and the possibilities created by Beijing's new 'going out' policies for Chinese civil society groups. It examines the rhetoric and reality of GCS as an emancipatory project and argues that 'universal values' underpinned by principles of human rights and democracy have gained currency in China despite official resistance from the government. It argues that while the Chinese party-state is keen to benefit from GCS engagement, Beijing is also determined to minimize any impact outside groups might have on regime security. The Element concludes with some observations about future research directions and the internationalization of Chinese civil society.

Disability and Healing in Greek and Roman Myth (Elements in Greek and Roman Mythology)

by null Christian Laes

Disability and Healing in Greek and Roman Myth takes its readers to stories, in versions known and often unknown. Disabilities and diseases are dealt with from head to toe: from mental disorder, over impairment of vision, hearing and speaking, to mobility problems and wider issues that pertain to the whole body. This Element places the stories in context, with due attention to close reading, and pays careful attention to concepts and terminology regarding disability. It sets Graeco-Roman mythology in the wider context of the ancient world, including Christianity. One of the focuses is the people behind the stories and their 'lived' religion. It also encourages its readers to 'live' their ancient mythology.

Personal Ontology: Mystery and Its Consequences

by null Andrew Brenner

What are we? Are we, for example, souls, organisms, brains, or something else? In this book, Andrew Brenner argues that there are principled obstacles to our discovering the answer to this fundamental metaphysical question. The main competing accounts of personal ontology hold that we are either souls (or composites of soul and body), or we are composite physical objects of some sort, but, as Brenner shows, arguments for either of these options can be parodied and transformed into their opposites. Brenner also examines arguments for and against the existence of the self, offers a detailed discussion of the metaphysics of several afterlife scenarios - resurrection, reincarnation, and mind uploading -- and considers whether agnosticism with respect to personal ontology should lead us to agnosticism with respect to the possibility of life after death.

Old Romantics

by Maggie Armstrong

A woman pursues a man who cut ahead of her in a line. Two nice people report that a child is being left unsupervised at a local beach. Chance meetings, spontaneous trips away, and the thrill of the new: the anticipation and the ardour, the disappointment and casual disregard. Romances, old and new, shift and sour. Maggie Armstrong's debut is a collection of alternative romances told from a netherworld of love and disenchantment. These stories, at once familiar and strange, follow the interior biography of an indistinct Dublin woman, from early adulthood into motherhood and the trials of young family life right up to the pandemic. Slippery, flawed and acute, Maggie Armstrong's narrator navigates a world of awkward expectation and latent hostility.

Paying The Land

by Joe Sacco

The Dene have lived in the vast Mackenzie River Valley since time immemorial, by their account. To the Dene, the land owns them, not the other way around-it is central to their livelihood and their very way of being. But the subarctic Canadian Northwest Territories are also home to valuable natural resources, including oil, gas and diamonds. With mining came jobs and investment-but also road-building, pipelines and toxic waste, which scarred the landscape; and alcohol, drugs, and debt, which deformed a way of life. In Paying the Land, Joe Sacco travels the frozen North to reveal a people in conflict over the costs and benefits of development. Resource extraction is only part of Canada's colonial legacy- Sacco recounts the shattering impact of a residential school system that aimed to remove the Indian from the child; the destructive process that drove the Dene from the bush into settlements and turned them into wage labourers; the government land claims stacked against the Dene Nation; and their uphill efforts to revive a wounded culture. Against a vast and gorgeous landscape that dwarfs all human scale, Paying the Land lends an ear to trappers and chiefs, activists and priests, telling a sweeping story about money and dependency, loss and culture, with stunning visual detail by one of the greatest comic's reporters alive.
