• BRF (Braille Refreshable Format) - Digital Braille for use with refreshable Braille devices and Braille embossers.
• MP3 (MPEG audio layer 3) - Provides audio only with no text. These books are created with a text-to-speech engine and spoken by Kendra, a high quality synthetic voice from Ivona. Any device that supports MP3 playback is compatible.
• DAISY Audio - Similar to the DAISY option above; however, this option uses MP3 files created with our text-to-speech engine that utilizes Ivonas Kendra voice. This format will work with Daisy Audio compatible players such as Victor Reader Stream and Read2Go.
• EPUB - A standard e-book format that can be read on many tools, such as iBooks, Readium or others.

In this sense the question of the way in which sport really benefits people and contributes to their happiness, and under which individual and social conditions, is a scientific question. Sport and Sport Science Sport and exercise, physical culture and education in sport (physical training), gymnastics and touring combined with some form of sport are-as the present report distinctly shows-all over the world among the most striking social phenom­ ena of today. Testing Knowledge: Toward an Ecology of Diagnosis, Preceded by the Dingdingdong Manifesto

This volume presents the collective adventure of Dingdingdong, the Institute for the Co-production of Knowledge about Huntington’s Disease, founded in 2012 between Paris and Brussels. Katrin Solhdju’s Testing Knowledge: Toward an Ecology of Diagnosis pursues the question of taming the violence of the new species of medical foreknowledge represented by genetic testing. Adopting historical and epistemological perspectives on diagnostic situations, including observations from anthropological field research, speculative storytelling, and ancient oracles, Testing Knowledge proposes a new ecology of predictive diagnostic gestures, which potentially concern us all. Testing Knowledge is preceded by the Dingdingdong collective’s Manifesto (2013), which tells the story of the young Alice Rivières, who in 2006 took the presymptomatic, genetic test, foretelling her that she will eventually develop Huntington’s. Her first-person account of the revelation of her test results, which she experienced as an act of poisoning or cursing, pulls the reader into the manifold ethical, psychological, and existential issues inherent to medical predictions. Testing Knowledge is also preceded by a foreword from Alice Wexler, author of Mapping Fate: A Memoir of Family, Risk, and Genetic Research, and is followed by an afterword by philosopher Isabelle Stengers.

Tellings and Texts: Music, Literature And Performance In North India

Examining materials from early modern and contemporary North India and Pakistan, Tellings and Texts brings together seventeen first-rate papers on the relations between written and oral texts, their performance, and the musical traditions these performances have entailed. Survie des patients atteints de cancer en France: Étude des registres du réseau FRANCIM

Le réseau Francim regroupe l’ensemble des registres français des cancers. Il a mis en œuvre un observatoire des pathologies cancéreuses en France, dont la finalité est de fournir à la communauté les indicateurs épidémiologiques utiles à la connaissance et à la prise en charge de cette pathologie, en lien avec différents partenaires institutionnels. Une première production de cet observatoire a été de fournir des estimations de l’incidence du cancer en France en 2000. Sa seconde production est rapportée dans cet ouvrage, et concerne la survie des patients atteints de cancer, telle qu’elle a pu être estimée à partir de tous les cas de cancers enregistrés de 1989 à 1997 dans 20 registres départementaux français. Pour atteindre ces objectifs, le réseau s’est associé au service de biostatistique des hospices civils de Lyon, qui a assuré l’analyse statistique des données collectées par les différents registres. Les procédures qui ont été mises en place pour les différentes phases de ce travail peuvent être mises en œuvre de façon régulière, pour des estimations ultérieures. Elles se prêtent aussi à la mise en œuvre d’études plus approfondies qui s’avèrent nécessaires pour certains cancers. Ces données dites de «population» viennent compléter utilement les résultats issus des études menées dans le domaine de la recherche clinique. Un outil supplémentaire de surveillance épidémiologique du cancer est donc à présent disponible en France, grâce au soutien de la Ligue nationale contre le cancer.

La théorie classique des suites de Sturm fournit un algorithme pour déterminer le nombre de racines d’un polynôme à coefficients réels contenues dans un intervalle donné. L’objet principal de ce mémoire est de montrer qu’une généralisation adéquate de la théorie des suites de Sturm fournit entre autres choses: une notion d’indice de Maslov pour un lacet algébrique de lagrangiens défini sur un anneau commutatif; une démonstration du théorème fondamental de la K-théorie (algébrique) hermitienne, théorème dû à M. Karoubi; une démonstration des théorèmes de périodicité de Bott (topologique), dans l’esprit des travaux de F. Latour; un calcul du groupe K2 relatif, symplectique-linéaire, pour tous les anneaux commutatifs, dans l’esprit des travaux de R. Sharpe. Le livre est dans la mesure du possible « self-contained » et élémentaire: il met essentiellement en oeuvre des arguments d’algèbre linéaire ou bilinéaire. Il présente une approche unifiée de l’indice de Maslov en termes de suites de Sturm et de formes quadratiques.
