System-Engineering für Realzeitsysteme: Bericht über das Verbundprojekt PROSYT
by Hartwig Steusloff Thomas BatzBei der Entwicklung komplexer Automatisierungssysteme sind immer umfangreichere Aufgaben von einer steigenden Anzahl miteinander kommunizierender Rechner zu lösen. Dazu bedarf es der Verwendung einer adäquaten Entwicklungsumgebung. Dieses Buch beschreibt die Ergebnisse des Verbundprojekts PROSYT, in dem unter Beteiligung von 18 Partnern aus Industrie und Wissenschaft eine Systementwicklungsumgebung zur Realisierung verteilbarer Realzeitsysteme entstand. Verschiedene (Software-)Werkzeuge unterschiedlicher Hersteller wurden syntaktisch und semantisch in Werkzeuglinien integriert, um den gesamten Systemlebenszyklus vom Requirement-Engineering bis zur Wartung mit einem integrierten System abzudecken. Das Entwicklungssystem PROSYT besteht aus einem offenen Rahmensystem, in das die Werkzeuge horizontal und vertikal integriert wurden. Das Rahmensystem enthält ein Dialogsystem (PRODIA), ein Nonstandard Datenbanksystem (PRODAT) und eine wissensbasierte Recherchenkomponente (Projekt-Advisor). Drei integrierte Werkzeuglinien (SARS-IGS-VICO-PEARL, EPOS-PRODOS-CAT-PRISE/PDAS und PASQUALE-PRODOS), die den gesamten Systemzyklus abdecken, zeigen die Nützlichkeit und Angemessenheit der Konzepte der Basissysteme sowie die Realisierbarkeit der Integration mit vertretbarem Aufwand von Werkzeugen unterschiedlicher Firmen. Das Buch wendet sich an Anwender von Softwarewerkzeugen, Entwickler von integrierten Werkzeugsystemen und von Rahmensystemen und potentielle Anwender wissensbasierter Methoden bei der Projektabwicklung.
Capacity Oriented Analysis and Design of Production Systems (Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems #323)
by M.B.M. de KosterIn production systems there are often capacity oriented performance objectives, like a desired total throughput, a desired average throughput time and average work in-process. Such performance objectives are expressed in "units of products" rather than in specific product types. This book presents a way of modeling and analyzing production systems so, that such capacity oriented performance criteria can be measured in a simple way. The model consists of three basic elements. 1. The product types in the system are aggregated. 2. The product flow is modeled as being continuous. 3. The machines in the model have a finite number of states. Each state has a phase-type sojourn distribution and an associated production speed. Transitions between the states are determined by an irreducible Markov transition matrix. In the book both the mathematical properties and the practical applicabilities of the model are investigated. The model is extensively analyzed for various layouts, like flow lines, assembly disassembly systems and networks where parallel machines share common buffers. Furthermore various ways of controlling the product flow in the model are investigated, such as Base Stock Control, Workload Control, control by finite buffers and control by the Reorder Point System. An approximation technique is developed for a quick estimation of performance measures like throughput and average work-in-process, for networks with layouts and control techniques like those above-mentioned.
Thermophysical Properties of Polymers

GodovskyAmong various branches of polymer physics an important position is occupied by that vast area, which deals with the thermal behav ior and thermal properties of polymers and which is normally called the thermal physics of polymers. Historically it began when the un usual thermo-mechanical behavior of natural rubber under stretch ing, which had been discovered by Gough at the very beginning of the last century, was studied 50 years later experimentally by Joule and theoretically by Lord Kelvin. This made it possible even at that time to distinguish polymers from other subjects of physical investigations. These investigation laid down the basic principles of solving the key problem of polymer physics - rubberlike elasticity - which was solved in the middle of our century by means of the statistical thermodynamics applied to chain molecules. At approx imately the same time it was demonstrated, by using the methods of solid state physics, that the low temperature dependence of heat capacity and thermal expansivity of linear polymers should fol low dependencies different from that characteristic of nonpolymeric solids. Finally, new ideas about the structure and morphology of polymers arised at the end of the 1950s stimulated the development of new thermal methods (differential scanning calorimetry, defor mation calorimetry), which have become very powerful instruments for studying the nature of various states of polymers and the struc tural heterogeneity.
Hemivariational Inequalities: Applications in Mechanics and Engineering

PanagiotopoulosThe aim of the present book is the formulation, mathematical study and numerical treatment of static and dynamic problems in mechanics and engineering sciences involving nonconvex and nonsmooth energy functions, or nonmonotone and multivalued stress-strain laws. Such problems lead to a new type of variational forms, the hemivariational inequalities, which also lead to multivalued differential or integral equations. Innovative numerical methods are presented for the treament of realistic engineering problems. This book is the first to deal with variational theory of engineering problems involving nonmonotone multivalue realations, their mechanical foundation, their mathematical study (existence and certain approximation results) and the corresponding eigenvalue and optimal control problems. All the numerical applications give innovative answers to as yet unsolved or partially solved engineering problems, e.g. the adhesive contact in cracks, the delamination problem, the sawtooth stress-strain laws in composites, the shear connectors in composite beams, the semirigid connections in steel structures, the adhesive grasping in robotics, etc. The book closes with the consideration of hemivariational inequalities for fractal type geometries and with the neural network approach to the numerical treatment of hemivariational inequalities.

Coupled Boundary and Finite Element Methods for the Solution of the Dynamic Fluid-Structure Interaction Problem (Lecture Notes in Engineering #77)

WiltonThis text considers the problem of the dynamic fluid-structure interaction between a finite elastic structure and the acoustic field in an unbounded fluid-filled exterior domain. The exterior acoustic field is modelled through a boundary integral equation over the structure surface. However, the classical boundary integral equation formulations of this problem either have no solutions or do not have unique solutions at certain characteristic frequencies (which depend on the surface geometry) and it is necessary to employ modified boundary integral equation formulations which are valid for all frequencies. The particular approach adopted here involves an arbitrary coupling parameter and the effect that this parameter has on the stability and accuracy of the numerical method used to solve the integral equation is examined. The boundary integral analysis of the exterior acoustic problem is coupled with a finite element analysis of the elastic structure in order to investigate the interaction between the dynamic behaviour of the structure and the associated acoustic field. Recently there has been some controversy over whether or not the coupled problem also suffers from the non-uniqueness problems associated with the classical integral equation formulations of the exterior acoustic problem. This question is resolved by demonstrating that .the solution to the coupled problem is not unique at the characteristic frequencies and that it is necessary to employ an integral equation formulation valid for all frequencies.

As a matter of fact an important number of papers have been based on analytical calculations. More recently numerical simulations have been extensively used. for instance for large displacement analysis. for shape optimization or even -in linear analysis -for composite material understanding. But all these works lie on a choice of a finite element scheme which contains usually three kinds of approximations: 1. a plate or shell mndel including smnll parameters associated to the thickness, 2. an approximntion of the geometry (the medium sUrface of a shell and its boundary), 3. afinite element scheme in order to solve the mndel chosen. VI Obviously the conclusions that we can draw are very much depending on the quality of the three previous choices. For instance composite laminated plates with damage like a delamination is still an open problem even if interesting papers have already been published and based on numerical simulation using existing fmite element and even plate models. • In our opinion the understanding of plate modelling is still an area of interest. Furthermore the links between the various models have to be handled with care. The certainly best understood model is the Kirchhoff-Love model which was completely justified by P. O. Ciarlet and Ph. Destuynder in linear analysis using asymptotic method. But the conclusion is not so clear as far as large displacements are to be taken into account.
