Many of the papers presented here stem from a conference held in Stockholm in 1985, sponsored by the Swedish Council for the Planning and Coordination of Research, as part of a large-scale project on handicaps. Volume 1 of the survey which dealt with adults was published in 1991. One of the findings to emerge is that more than half of these children have one or more additional disabilities such as impaired hearing or speech, physical handicaps or learning difficulties.
