Advances in Technological Innovations in Higher Education: Theory and Practices (Innovations in Intelligent Internet of Everything (IoE))

The evolution of technology in education can no longer be comprehended simply by looking at the use of computers and networks. Technology is not just a supplementary tool to the conventional method of education. Education has to undergo a complete transformation with technological innovations for the sustainability of quality education as a system and not in silos. Sustainability in education also necessitates a more workable strategy to realize socially viable educational policies and practices which can focus more on personalized learning. Due to various factors like emerging technologies; changing needs of the learners; policy reforms for enhancing employability; and emphasis on uninterrupted education as in the case of the pandemic scenario of COVID-19, there is a need to steer a major transition in the education system. The education system has to be real and proficient for it to be instrumental to nurture an informed and knowledgeable society. This book on technological innovations in higher education is organized, largely, based on the diversity of higher education ecosystems that are supported by technological innovations. Various author viewpoints give insights into the full potential of technology as well as its risks in interrelated areas of higher education to work towards sustainability of value-based quality education across the globe.

Advancing Equity-Focused School Counseling for All Students: Confronting Disproportionality Across PreK-12 Schools

by Sam Steen Shekila Melchior Amber Brenae Sansbury-Scott

Using author narratives, this book brings attention to racial disparities that currently exist in schools within the historical context of pivotal legal cases in America while emphasizing the importance of assessing and supporting students through a culturally appropriate lens that recognizes student strengths. The authors provide current and historical frameworks through which school counselors can develop a more socially just and liberation-orientated school counseling program. These frameworks center and unveil the ways in which social rank, segregation, and racism influence development, particularly for Black and Brown children. The book underscores the value of community partnerships and the role of strategic partnerships to support a college culture, particularly for student populations with historically limited access to higher education. Readers will also learn about misconceptions of racially and ethnically minoritized children and the related impacts on misdiagnosis and overrepresentation in special education. School counselors looking to ensure equity and social justice within their classrooms, analyze their own privilege, and support students of all backgrounds will find this timely text indispensable in creating a program that fosters understanding and growth.

Aesthetic Positive Pedagogy: Aspiring to Empowerment in the Classroom and Beyond

by Georgina Barton Katie Burke

This book introduces and explores a new pedagogical approach, Aesthetic Positive Pedagogy (APP), for teachers and students in a variety of educational contexts. The book is built on the need for educational institutions and communities to seriously consider a strong positive approach to learning and teaching, ultimately leading to a better world. Based on pre-existing philosophies such as positive pedagogy and critical pedagogy, APP encourages teachers to carefully consider their language use as well as other modal resources in the classroom. Using aesthetic experience as a core to learning, teachers can embed an approach to learning and teaching that supports wellbeing and resilience as well as caring and compassionate citizenship in their students. The authors outline what an APP approach to learning and teaching looks, feels and sounds like in different educational contexts such as in schools and higher education, and explore how it might be implemented in face-to-face as well as online learning. The book’s findings will apply to postgraduate students and academics in education and the creative arts, as well as teachers and leaders in schools.
