Scatter Plots (Large Print)

by Rnib Bookshare

This diagram shows four examples of experimental correlations (scatter plots). There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the right way up. There are four labelled boxes on this page and each represents a scatter plot graph. The axes are labelled on each. The box in the top left corner shows a high positive correlation and plots data points which tend towards a clear diagonal direction towards the top right corner. The box in the top right corner shows a low positive correlation. This also plots a series of dots however these are more spaced out, but loosely go in a diagonal direction towards the top right corner. The bottom left box shows zero correlation. The dots on this graph are all spaced out and do not appear to go in any direction. The bottom right box shows a negative correlation and the dots on this diagram generally go in a diagonal direction to the bottom right hand corner.

Schacter's cognitive labelling theory (UEB Contracted)

by Rnib Bookshare

This image is a flow chart which reads from left to right and bottom to top with four boxes and six arrows. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the right way up. This image shows a box on the left representing the stimulus with two arrows on the right, one pointing diagonally up to a box cognitive appraisal of arousal , and the other down to a box physiological changes. This box has a labelled arrow extending vertically upwards via the thalamus sending impulses to the cortex to the top box. The boxes cognitive appraisal of arousal and physiological changes have arrows pointing to a fourth box on the right subjective experience of emotion.

Distributions (Large Print)

by Rnib Bookshare

This diagram has two line graphs, one at the top and one at the bottom of the page which show skewed distributions. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the right way up. Both y-axes show frequency, and the position of the mode, median and mean, indicated by three different sorts of line, labelled in the key at the bottom of the page. The graph at the top shows a negatively skewed distribution, where most of the scores occur at the higher values. The line on this graph rises gradually to a peak and then falls steeply thereafter, so that it is skewed towards the right. The graph at the bottom of the page shows a positively skewed distribution where most of the scores occur at the lower values. The line on this graph rises sharply to a peak and then falls gradually thereafter, so that it is skewed to the left.

Bar graph example (large print)

by Rnib

On this page there is a labelled bar graph plotting number of people against shoe size. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the right way up. The Y-axis is on the left and shows the number of people. It is labelled every two units from zero at the bottom to ten at the top of the page. There are fine lines across the page every two units. The X-axis runs along the bottom of the page and shows shoe sizes from two to ten. For every shoe size there is a rectangular bar going up the page to show the number of people with this shoe size.

A line graph (UEB contracted)

by Rnib

This diagram shows a generic line graph. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the right way up. The x-axis is labelled and goes from 0 to 5 at the bottom of the diagram. The y-axis is also labelled and goes from 0 to 8 to the left of the page. Each point on the y-axis has a dotted horizontal line extending across the page. There is a single line plotted on this graph, joining data points shown as dots. It starts in the bottom left and goes sharply up to the right. It then comes down, going up again to the right of the page.

A bar chart (large print)

by Rnib

This diagram shows a generic bar chart. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the right way up. There are five vertical bars plotted. The x-axis at the bottom of the page is labelled from 0 to 5. The y-axis on the left of the page is labelled from 0 to 8. Each point on the y-axis has a dotted horizontal gridline extending across the page. Each bar on the graph represents a different value and is therefore a different height, with the lowest reaching 1 on the y-axis and the highest reaching 7 on the y-axis.

Bimodal Distribution (Large Print)

by Rnib Bookshare

This diagram is a line graph with a single curved line, rising from the origin on the left. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the right way up. The y-axis on the left shows frequency. The graph has two peaks and a dip in the centre.
