The star fruit is shown in centre of the page; it is a long fruit, and has three to six ridges (usually five) running down its sides. These ridges give the fruit a star-like shape in cross section. There are five seeds in the centre of the image; their arrangement matches that of the ridges on the fruit. The star fruit is usually about ten centimetres long. Its flesh and skin are a light yellowy green and can be tinged with orange when very ripe.
