There are four religious symbol images on this page. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left when the images are the correct way up. In the top left is the Crescent Moon and Star symbol of the Muslim faith. In the top right is the Seikh Khanda symbol made up of three elements: a double-edged vertical sword, a circle (Chakkar) and two crossed knives (kirpans) In the bottom left is the nine-pointed star of the BahaâI faith. In the bottom right is the Om symbol composed of the three sounds a-u-m written in Sanskrit. The vowels a and u combine to become o. The symbol's threefold nature is central to its meaning representing several important triads.

In the top left is the Wheel of Truth symbol of the Buddhist faith. It is the eight-spoked Dharma Wheel (Dharmachakra in Sanskrit) which symbolizes Buddha's turning of the Wheel of Truth or Law. In the top right is the hand symbol of the Jain faith. It reminds followers that one should always stop and think before taking action. In the bottom left is the Torii Gate symbol of the Shinto faith. It represents a gate to a sacred place. In the bottom right is the Taoist Yin-yang symbol composed of two identical tear drop curving shapes. The shapes are of opposite colour and interlock together to form a perfect circle. The symbol represents the ways in which Yin and Yang are mutually-arising, interdependent, and continuously transforming, one into the other.

Buddhist temple and gardens plan view (Large Print)

This is an image of a plan view of a typical Buddhist temple and its gardens. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left when the image is the right way up. The entrance to the gardens is at the bottom centre of the page. Up from this is the entrance to the circular temple. Up from here is the altar and a figure of Buddha. On the altar there might be representations of the four elements: candles for fire, a bowl of water for water, incense for air and rice for earth. There would usually be some flowers as well. The representations of the elements and the flowers are not shown. There are four ponds, one each to the top right and left, and the bottom right and left of the temple. In each corner of the grounds there is a flower bed. A colonnaded wall surrounds it all. The layout and content of the temple and gardens is to bring peace and meditation.

This is an image of a front view of a typical Buddhist temple. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left when the image is the right way up. At the bottom left and right of the image is a low colonnaded wall. Behind this in the centre is an apsidal entrance to the temple. Left and right of the entrance are columns supporting a large domed roof. There are two small high windows to the left and right of the entrance between the pillars. At the top centre of the dome there is a small pinnacle with a rectangular base.
