On and Off-Chip Crosstalk Avoidance in VLSI Design

by Chunjie Duan Brock J. LaMeres

Deep Sub-Micron (DSM) processes present many changes to Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) circuit designers. One of the greatest challenges is crosstalk, which becomes significant with shrinking feature sizes of VLSI fabrication processes. The presence of crosstalk greatly limits the speed and increases the power consumption of the IC design. This book focuses on crosstalk avoidance with bus encoding, one of the techniques that selectively mitigates the impact of crosstalk and improves the speed and power consumption of the bus interconnect. This technique encodes data before transmission over the bus to avoid certain undesirable crosstalk conditions and thereby improve the bus speed and/or energy consumption.

On Advances in Robot Kinematics

by C. Galletti Jadran Lenar 269 I 269

In the last decade, we have seen an extraordinary progress in the the ory and applications of robot kinematics. This has been motivated espe cially by the development of complex parallel and humanoid robots. The present book reports the most recent research advances in the theory, design, control and application of robotic systems, which are intended for a variety of purposes such as manipulation, manufacturing, automa tion, surgery, locomotion and biomechanics. The issues addressed are fundamentally kinematic in nature, including synthesis, calibration, re dundancy, force control, dexterity, inverse and forward kinematics, kine matic singularities, as well as over-constrained systems. Methods used include line geometry, quaternion algebra, screw algebra, and linear alge bra. These methods are applied to both parallel and serial multi-degree of-freedom systems. The results should interest researchers, teachers and students, in fields of engineering and mathematics related to robot theory, design, control and application. This is the sixth book of the series Advances in Robot Kinematics published by Kluwer. The contributions in this book had been rigorously reviewed by in dependent reviewers and fifty one articles had been recommended for publication. They were introduced in seven chapters. These articles were also reported and discussed at the ninth international symposium on Advances in Robot Kinematics which was held in June 2004 in Sestri Levante in Italy.Indexed in Conference Proceedings Citation Index- Science (CPCI-S)

On a Method of Multiprogramming (Monographs in Computer Science)

by W.H.J. Feijen A.J.M. van Gasteren

Here, the authors propose a method for the formal development of parallel programs - or multiprograms as they prefer to call them. They accomplish this with a minimum of formal gear, i.e. with the predicate calculus and the well- established theory of Owicki and Gries. They show that the Owicki/Gries theory can be effectively put to work for the formal development of multiprograms, regardless of whether these algorithms are distributed or not.

Omnisophie: Über richtige, wahre und natürliche Menschen

by Gunter Dueck

OmeGA: A Competent Genetic Algorithm for Solving Permutation and Scheduling Problems (Genetic Algorithms and Evolutionary Computation #6)

by Dimitri Knjazew

OmeGA: A Competent Genetic Algorithm for Solving Permutation and Scheduling Problems addresses two increasingly important areas in GA implementation and practice. OmeGA, or the ordering messy genetic algorithm, combines some of the latest in competent GA technology to solve scheduling and other permutation problems. Competent GAs are those designed for principled solutions of hard problems, quickly, reliably, and accurately. Permutation and scheduling problems are difficult combinatorial optimization problems with commercial import across a variety of industries. This book approaches both subjects systematically and clearly. The first part of the book presents the clearest description of messy GAs written to date along with an innovative adaptation of the method to ordering problems. The second part of the book investigates the algorithm on boundedly difficult test functions, showing principled scale up as problems become harder and longer. Finally, the book applies the algorithm to a test function drawn from the literature of scheduling.
