However on the other hand, this development has also resulted in various types of challenges with certain consequences, one of the challenges is guaranteeing the security of access to personal data. The important role of personal data is to complete individual rights, such as in obtaining social security, banking services, conducting general elections and others, as in this case the presence of the state in participating in ensuring the confidentiality of personal data is very necessary. The State through the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia in Article 28G clearly stipulates “every person has the right on protection for his/herself, family, honor, dignity, and property of objects that under his/her power, and entitled on a sense of safe and protection from the threat of fear to do or not to do something which is a human right”.Along with the development of information through the internet, technology continues to find various applications and various variations of new technology. Technological growth is directly align to development growth and impulsively drives population movement. As the object and subject of development, the population is recognized, identified, sorted and analyzed as the development policies implemented capable to be targeted. Population data and information thus occupy a very strategic position. Through Law Number 52 of 2009 on the Population Development and Family Development, the central government and local one are given the mandate to collect, process and present data and information on population and family. These efforts can be done through censuses, surveys and family data collection.One of the developed and applied technologies is the development of Big Data technology. Big Data technology utilized to improve public services provided by the government. The development of this technology consistently utilized to build a complete and centralized database in a single identity. In its implementation, the government has opportunities and challenges to take advantage of this technology. Some of the challenges are related to data security and the community’s perspective on managing their population data. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a more in-depth study of the application of this technology from various scientific sides to address the opportunities and challenges, especially regarding the security of population data and the behavior of the society towards the guarantee of population data which is managed in the current era of openness.Based on the background above, the D-4 Demographic and Civil Registration Study Program, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta Vocational School will hosting an Online International Seminar on Demography and Civil Registration with main theme: “Challenges on Population Data Security, Demographic Behavior and Transformation in the Openness Era”.

Hallaq, a renowned sharia scholar, has called sharia an ‘episteme’ that suffered a ‘structural death’ following the dawn of modernity in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (Hallaq 2009, 15–16). Yet, its resurgent is remarkable across a number of jurisdictional fault-lines: from Muslim-majority nations in Middle East and Southeast Asia to Muslim-minority societies in Western Europe and North America. Across these jurisdictions, the relationship between sharia and state law is central. It includes sharia-state encounters, notably in the form of (state) Islamic law, in the field of family law, which is often asserted as the ‘core’ or ‘last stronghold’ of sharia (Moors 2003, 2; Coulson 1969, 115–6), and other substantive areas of law, such as Islamic economics and Islamic philanthropy and also jinayah (Islamic penal law). Regardless of their differences in their own specific context, these areas somehow manage to secure an importance place in the modern days. It involves different loci of authority to interpret, legislate, and enforce sharia, or parts of it that not only flourish but also being challenged around the Muslim world. Equally important are implications of the increasingly unsettled authority of apparently agreed-upon substance of sharia. To contribute on these issues, we would like to invite scholars from diverse discipline including law, anthropology, and Islamic studies, working in both Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority contexts, to present their works in our International Seminar on Sharia, Law, and Muslim Society (ISSLaMS).

Faculty of Social and Political Science, State Islamic University Walisongo Semarang, has been playing significant roles in building global peace and justice by conducting scientific research and creating a space for academic dialogue and discussion. This goal is in line with our vision to be a Research Faculty based on the unity of sciences for humanity and civilization. As part of the efforts to create a space for academic dialogue at a global level, we organize an international conference which aims to develop scientific knowledge, build institutional capacity, and strengthen international networking. The conference is also held to support State Islamic University Walisongo Semarang in achieving its vision to be an Islamic world-class university. The conference raises the issue of democracy and social transformation to capture the social and political dynamics. The selection of this topic is based on the idea that technological development is becoming a crucial issue within modern society in which people tend to experience alienation within the rapid social and political transformation. Democracy as a political system that ensures transparency, citizen participation, and human rights protection is now under threat. Having the fact that there is a growing tendency of using transactional politics to win political interests such as the use of money and identity in political processes, therefore, political analysts consider this situation as the regression of democracy. Rapid social and cultural transformation as a consequence of advanced technology creates problems in modern society. On one hand, technology has made the life of people easier. However, on the other hand, the sense of humanity’s values and principles is declining. This situation can be observed in the decrease in social solidarity and the rise of individualism. Modernity that values productivity and economic growth has brought a negative impact on the life of human being and nature. The exploitative character of industrialization has created an ecological crisis. Advanced information technology has loosened social cohesivity and the rise of instrumental rationality has removed local genius or local wisdom from the life of society. Since the ultimate goal of humanity is respecting the dignity of human beings, hence, bringing back humanity to the center of the development program is crucial, especially in the current social and political dynamics. In the political context, humanity means respecting the basic rights of the citizen and putting them as a subject of political development and not perceiving citizens as only an instrument to win political power. Based on the above background, this conference is organized. The overall goal of the conference is to mainstream humanity in the current social and political change.
