Klaus Mollenhauer’s Forgotten Connections: On Culture and Upbringing is internationally regarded as one of the most important German contributions to educational and curriculum theory in the 20th century. Appearing here in English for the first time, the book draws on Mollenhauer’s concern for social justice and his profound awareness of the pedagogical tension between the inheritance of the past and the promise of the future. Forgotten Pedagogues of German Education: A History of Alternative Education (Palgrave Studies in Alternative Education)

This book introduces six pedagogues from the German context to an English-speaking audience, and demonstrates their significant contribution to the field of alternative education. First and foremost, the authors emphasise the importance of understanding the history of education, to realise that in fact what we understand as ‘normal’ today is by no means the only course history could have taken. The Forgotten Victims of Sexual Violence in Film, Television and New Media: Turning to the Margins

This edited collection provides an intersectional and transnational exploration of representations of sexual violence and rape within films, television shows, and digital media in the contemporary context of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. Form und Vergegenwärtigung: Funktionalistische Studien zur Organisation des Sterbens zu Hause

Das eigene Zuhause gilt vielen nach wie vor als der ›ideale‹ Sterbeort. In mehreren Fallstudien zeigt der vorliegende Band am Beispiel der spezialisierten ambulanten Palliativversorgung (SAPV), wie das Sterben zu Hause in organisierte Formen übersetzt und professionell begleitet bzw. versorgt wird. Die Ergebnisse der Fallstudien zeigen, wie zwischen vielfältigen und zum Teil auch widersprüchlichen professionellen Anforderungen, aber auch den Erwartungen von Patient:innen und Angehörigen vermittelt werden kann. Durch die Analyse der beruflichen Perspektiven von Palliativärzt:innen und Palliative Care Fachkräften wird ersichtlich, wie die sich in Folge von Ausdifferenzierung und Spezialisierung immer weiter verselbstständigende medizinische und pflegerische Expertise im privaten Raum gegenüber einem ›Laienpublikum‹ aus Patient:innen und Angehörigen bewähren kann. Formal and Informal Education during the Rise of Greek Nationalism: Learning to be Greek

This book examines informal modes of learning in Greece from in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, set against the backdrop of Greek nationalist interests and agendas. For much of this period, one of the Greek state’s major goals was to bind the nation around a common history and culture, linked to a collective and homogenous community. This study addresses the critical relationship between the average Greek child and their home, community, and school life during the earliest stages of their education. The stories, games, songs, and theater that children learned in Greece for much of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries went beyond shaping their moral character or providing entertainment, but were instrumental in forging a Greek national consciousness.

First published in 1979, this book starts from the perspective that dealing with anaphoric language can be decomposed into two complementary tasks: 1. identifying what a text potentially makes available for anaphoric reference and 2. constraining the candidate set of a given anaphoric expression down to one possible choice. The author argues there is an intimate connection between formal sentential analysis and the synthesis of an appropriate conceptual model of the discourse. Some of the issues with the creation of this conceptual model are discussed in the second chapter, which follows a background to the thesis that catalogues the types of anaphoric expression available in English and lists the types of things that can be referred to anaphorically. The third and fourth chapters examine two types of anaphoric expression that do not refer to non-linguistic entities. The final chapter details three areas into which this research could potentially be extended. This book will be of interest to students of linguistics.
