The Diet Code: Revolutionary Weight Loss Secrets from Da Vinci and the Golden Ratio

by Stephen Lanzalotta

Eat bread and cheese, drink wine-and lose weight! The secret lies in an ancient mathematical formula now transformed into...THE DIET CODEAs a master baker and craftsman, Stephen Lanzalotta had been applying the mathematical principles of the Golden Ratio for more than twenty years. His realization that this ancient, universal formula, used by Da Vinci and other great geniuses of the Renaissance, also held the secret to optimal nutrition and health led him to apply it to his own diet and the menu at his popular cafe. The weight loss and sense of well-being that he and his customers experienced convinced him that he had cracked the diet code, discovering a simple, natural, and nutritious approach to healthy eating that is as easy as 1, 2, 3.His revolutionary Mediterranean-style eating program uses the Golden Ratio to link the proper proportions of everyday foods to boost metabolism and spark weight loss. Combining a three-phase eating program with detailed menu plans, mouthwatering recipes, Renaissance lore, and Italian-inspired lifestyle advice, THE DIET CODE is a unique health and weight loss program from the ages for the ages.In it readers will:* Crack the diet code-discover how the Golden Ratio can work for you to boost metabolism and maximize nutrition and weight loss* Forget about the math-it's all done for you, and the net result is deliciously simple: 1 part grain carbohydrate, 2 parts protein, 3 parts vegetables at every meal* Enjoy bread again! It really is the staff of life-as long as you eat it along with the right amount of fat or protein* Experience natural weight control-choose and properly prepare healthful, readily available foods as they did during the Renaissance.THE DIET CODE is a unique approach to eating well based on a mathematical phenomenon that's been around for centuries but has never before been applied to diet. Now prepare to lose weight and get healthy by asking yourself, "What would Da Vinci eat?"

The Diet Delusion

by Gary Taubes

Where mainstream nutritional science has demonised dietary fat for 50 years, hundreds of millions of dollars of research have failed to prove that eating a low-fat diet will help you live longer. Nutrition and obesity scientists have struggled to make sense of the paradox that obesity has become an epidemic, that diabetes rates have soared and the incidence of heart disease has not declined despite the fact that society is more diet and health aware today than generations ago.The Diet Delusion is an in-depth, scientific, groundbreaking examination of what actually happens in your body as a result of what you eat, rather than what the diet industry might have you believe happens and is essential reading for anyone trying to decide which diet - low-fat or low-carbohydrate - is truly the healthy diet. For years we have been deluded by the dieting industry. Now it's time to find out the truth.

Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It

by Anna Lappe

Beyond what we already know about "food miles" and eating locally, the global food system is a major contributor to climate change, producing as much as one-third of greenhouse gas emissions. How we farm, what we eat, and how our food gets to the table all have an impact. And our government and the food industry are willfully ignoring the issue rather than addressing it. In Anna Lappé's controversial new book, she predicts that unless we radically shift the trends of what food we're eating and how we're producing it, food system-related greenhouse gas emissions will go up and up and up. She exposes the interests that will resist the change, and the spin food companies will generate to avoid system-wide reform. And she offers a vision of a future in which our food system does more good than harm, with six principles for a climate friendly diet as well as visits to farmers who are demonstrating the potential of sustainable farming. In this measured and intelligent call to action, Lappé helps readers understand that food can be a powerful starting point for solutions to global environmental problems.

The Diet Myth: The Real Science Behind What We Eat

Why do most diets fail? Why does one person eat a certain meal and gain weight, while another eating the same meal loses pounds? The key to health and weight loss lies not in the latest fad diet, nor even in the simple mantra of 'eat less, exercise more', but in the microbes already inside us. Drawing on the latest science and his own pioneering research, Professor Tim Spector demystifies the common misconceptions about fat, calories, vitamins and nutrients. Only by understanding what makes our own personal microbes tick can we overcome the confusion of modern nutrition, and achieve a healthy gut and a healthy body.

DIFF RE-READING BEAUVOI & IRIGARAY SFP C: Rereading Beauvoir and Irigaray (Studies in Feminist Philosophy)

by Emily Anne Parker Nne Van Leeuwen

Simone de Beauvoir and Luce Irigaray famously insisted on their philosophical differences, and this mutual insistence has largely guided the reception of their thought. What does it mean to return to Simone de Beauvoir and Luce Irigaray in light of questions and problems of contemporary feminism, including intersectional and queer criticisms of their projects? How should we now take up, amplify, and surpass the horizons opened by their projects? Seeking answers to these questions, the essays in this volume return to Beauvoir and Irigaray to find what the two philosophers share. And as the authors make clear, the richness of Beauvoir and Irigaray's thought far exceeds the reductive parameters of the Eurocentric, bourgeois second-wave debates that have constrained interpretation of their work. The first section of this volume places Beauvoir and Irigaray in critical dialogue, exploring the place of the material and the corporeal in Beauvoir's thought and, in doing so, reading Beauvoir in a framework that goes beyond a theory of gender and the humanism of phenomenology. The essays in the second section of the volume take up the challenge of articulating points of dialogue between the two focal philosophers in logic, ethics, and politics. Combined, these essays resituate Beauvoir and Irigaray's work both historically and in light of contemporary demands, breaking new ground in feminist philosophy.

Digital Health Care outside of Traditional Clinical Settings: Ethical, Legal, and Regulatory Challenges and Opportunities

by I. Glenn Cohen Daniel B. Kramer Julia Adler-Milstein Carmel Shachar

Health care delivery is shifting away from the clinic and into the home. Even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of telehealth, wearable sensors, ambient surveillance, and other products was on the rise. In the coming years, patients will increasingly interact with digital products at every stage of their care, such as using wearable sensors to monitor changes in temperature or blood pressure, conducting self-directed testing before virtually meeting with a physician for a diagnosis, and using smart pills to document their adherence to prescribed treatments. This volume reflects on the explosion of at-home digital health care and explores the ethical, legal, regulatory, and reimbursement impacts of this shift away from the 20th-century focus on clinics and hospitals towards a more modern health care model. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.
