• BRF (Braille Refreshable Format) - Digital Braille for use with refreshable Braille devices and Braille embossers.
• MP3 (MPEG audio layer 3) - Provides audio only with no text. These books are created with a text-to-speech engine and spoken by Kendra, a high quality synthetic voice from Ivona. Any device that supports MP3 playback is compatible.
• DAISY Audio - Similar to the DAISY option above; however, this option uses MP3 files created with our text-to-speech engine that utilizes Ivonas Kendra voice. This format will work with Daisy Audio compatible players such as Victor Reader Stream and Read2Go.
• EPUB - A standard e-book format that can be read on many tools, such as iBooks, Readium or others.
• Word - Accessible Word output, which can be unzipped and opened in any tool that allows .docx files

Telefonbefragungen über das Mobilfunknetz: Konzept, Design und Umsetzung einer Strategie zur Datenerhebung

Das Buch stellt eine neue Form der Datenerhebung vor: Die Telefonbefragung über das Mobilfunknetz. Diese Methode wird aufgrund der zunehmenden Verbreitung von Handys und dem gleichzeitigen Verzicht auf Festnetzanschlüsse immer relevanter. Dies ist das erste Buch, das die Methode und deren Umsetzung darstellt. Es ist im Ergebnis eines von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderten Projekts entstanden, das sich der Integration von Mobilfunkanschlüssen in Telefonstichproben und der Befragung in beiden Netzen widmet. Bei dem Projekt handelt es sich um eine Kooperation zwischen der Technischen Universität Dresden und GESIS - Leibniz-Institut für Sozialwissenschaften. Neben der Entwicklung eines Stichprobendesigns wurden in der Befragung (jeweils 1.000 Interviews über Festnetz und Mobilfunk) vor allem mögliche Mode-Effekte näher untersucht sowie die prinzipielle Bereitschaft zu Umfragen in der Allgemeinbevölkerung über den Mobilfunk ergründet.

In steigendem Maße hat die Telekommunikation einen tiefgreifenden Ein­ fluß auf unsere Gesellschaft, die Formen des Zusammenlebens und Zusam­ menwirkens in unserer arbeitsteiligen Welt und den erreichbaren Lebens­ standard. Neben Energie und Materie gilt Information als die dritte fundamentale Größe für die Gestaltung unseres Lebens. Die Bedeutung der Information nimmt von Jahr zu Jahr zu, und es steht zu erwarten, daß die Informationstechnik prägenden Einfluß auf die kommenden Jahrzehnte haben wird. Dabei versteht man unter dem Begriff Informationstechnik bzw. Telematik das Zusammenwirken von Informationsverarbeitung oder In­ formatik einerseits und Informationsübermittlung oder Telekommunikation andererseits. Deutlich erkennbar wachsen diese beiden Gebiete immer stärker zusammen und bedingen sich gegenseitig. Der Zwang zur Innovation ist daher gerade hier besonders ausgeprägt, wobei auf dem Weg in das Informationszeitalter die Mikroelektronik als Basisinnovation die Rolle des Wegbereiters übernommen hat. Getragen wird diese Entwicklung aber von Menschen, nämlich den Infor­ mationsgestaltern und -vermittlern einerseits und denjenigen, die den technischen Vorgang der Informationsübermittlung erst ermöglichen.
