Mastering Writing at Greater Depth: A guide for primary teaching

by Adam Bushnell Angela Gill David Waugh Rob Smith

To master the teaching of writing at greater depth, teachers first need to know: *What makes writing ′greater depth′? *What does it looks like? *How do I support children to develop the skills and creativity to be able to write at ′greater depth′? Official guidance lacks the substance and clarity that is needed so where do teachers go for support? This book provides teachers with support, guidance, background theory, examples and practical advice for the teaching of writing at greater depth. The text highlights the need to take writing beyond transcription into creative composition - and not only shows how this is possible, but also explores why it matters. The second edition is updated with new questions for discussion supporting teacher professional learning and links to the ITT Core Content Framework for trainee teachers.

Modelling Exciting Writing: A guide for primary teaching

by Adam Bushnell Rob Smith David Waugh

In order to teach writing effectively, teachers must be able to model writing effectively to children. The Primary National Curriculum sets challenging expectations for the teaching of writing. Children must master the process of composition, redrafting, editing and writing final pieces. Increased emphasis on spelling, punctuation and grammar may leave some teachers and trainee teachers lacking ideas for developing children's writing beyond transcription and into composition. It is important that they are able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding, as well as the practical applications of both transcriptional and compositional aspects of writing.

Rules for Being a Girl

by Candace Bushnell Katie Cotugno

From Katie Cotugno and author of Sex and the City Candace Bushnell comes this fierce and feisty exploration of feminism: standing up, speaking out and rewriting the rules. Don’t be easy. Don’t give it up. Don’t be a prude. Don’t be cold. Don’t put him in the friendzone. Don’t act desperate. Don’t let things go too far. Don’t give him the wrong idea. Don’t blame him for trying. Don’t walk alone at night. But calm down! Don’t worry so much. Smile!Marin is a smart, driven, popular girl – she's headed for Brown when she graduates and has a brilliant career as a journalist ahead of her. Especially in the eyes of English teacher Mr Beckett. He spends a lot of time around Marin, and she thinks it's harmless . . . until he kisses her. No one believes Marin when she tells them what happened, so she does the only thing she can: she writes an article called 'Rules for Being a Girl' for the school paper to point out the misogyny and sexism that girls face every day. As things heat up at school and in her personal life, Marin must figure out how to take back the power and rewrite her own rules.

Irenaeus of Lyons and the Mosaic of Christ: Preaching Scripture in the Era of Martyrdom

by James G. Bushur

Recent theological scholarship has shown increasing interest in patristic exegesis. The way early Christians read scripture has attracted not only historians, but also systematic and exegetical scholars. However, the Christian reading of scripture before Origen has been neglected or, more often, dominated by Gnostic perspectives. This study uses the writings of Irenaeus to argue that there was a rich Christian engagement with scripture long before Origen and the supposed conflict between Antioch and Alexandria. This is a focused examination of specific exegetical themes that undergird Irenaeus’ argument against his opponents. However, whereas many works interpret Irenaeus only as he relates to certain Gnostic teachings, this book recognizes the broader context of the second century and explores the profound questions facing early Christians in an era of martyrdom. It shows that Irenaeus is interested, not simply in expounding the original intent of individual texts, but in demonstrating how individual texts fit into the one catholic narrative of salvation. This in turn, he hopes, will cause his audience to see their place as individuals in the same narrative. Using insightful close reading of Irenaeus, allied with a firm grounding in the context in which he wrote, this book will be vital reading for scholars of the early Church as well as those with interests in patristics and the development of Christian exegesis.

by Imke Buß

Biblical Form Criticism in its Context (The Library of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament Studies)

by Martin J. Buss

This magnum opus is not another catalogue of the forms of biblical literature, but a deeply reflected account of the significance of form itself. Buss writes out of his experience in Western philosophy and the intricate involvement of biblical criticism in philosophical history. Equally, biblical criticism and the development of notions of form are related to social contexts, whether from the side of the aristocracy (tending towards generality) or of the bourgeois (tending towards particularity) or of an inclusive society (favouring a relational view). Form criticism, in Buss's conception, is no mere formal exercise, but the observation of interrelationships among thoughts and moods, linguistic regularities and the experiences and activities of life. This work, with its many examples from both Testaments, will be fundamental for Old and New Testament scholars alike.

by Annette Busse

by Stefan Busse Kornelia Beer

by Stefan Busse Markus Lohse

by Susann Busse
