Euro-Par is now sponsored by the Association of Computer Machinery and the International Federation of Information Processing. Euro-Par’99 The format of Euro-Par’99follows that of the past four conferences and consists of a number of topics eachindividually monitored by a committee of four. There were originally 23 topics for this year’s conference. The call for papers attracted 343 submissions of which 188 were accepted. Of the papers accepted, 4 were judged as distinguished, 111 as regular and 73 as short papers.

EURO Working Group on DSS: A Tour of the DSS Developments Over the Last 30 Years (Integrated Series in Information Systems)

This book recapitulates the major developments in Decision Support Systems (DSS) over the last 30 years in order to evaluate the research areas of decision making and in which direction the field should proceed. As it attempts to find a consensus about the next steps for the future of DSS research, the book also enforces the trends and new technologies currently in use. The book examines topics such as decision analysis for enterprise systems and non-hierarchical networks, integrated solutions for decision support and knowledge management in distributed environments, decision support system evaluation and analysis through social networks, and e-learning and its application to real environments. It clearly presents the evidence to support their cases and attempts to promote an extensive and objective discussion. Eurocode ’92: International Symposium on Coding Theory and Applications (CISM International Centre for Mechanical Sciences #339)

This book is made of the proceedings of EUROCODE 1992 which was held in Udine (Italy) at the CISM, October 27 - 30, 1992. EUROCODE ’92 is a continuation as well as an extension of the previous colloquia Trois Journèes sur le codage and EUROCODE ’90, whose proceedings appeared as Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Volumes 388 and 514). The aim of EUROCODE ’92 was to attract high level research papers and to encourage interchange of ideas among the areas of coding theory and related fields which share the same tools for applications in the science of communications, theoretical computer science, software engineering and mathematics. Then the book is characterized by a very broad spectrum, ranging from combinatories or algebraic geometry to implementation of coding algorithms. There were about 90 participants to the conference, from the academic and industrial worlds; 53 conferences were selected. The submitted full-papers were separately refereed for publication by at least two international referees.

This carefully edited book comprises the papers from EUROFUSE 2011 Workshop on Fuzzy Methods for Knowledge-based Systems. EUROFUSE was established in 1998 as the EURO (the Association of European Operational Research Societies) Working Group on Fuzzy Sets, as a successor of the former European Chapter of IFSA (the International Fuzzy Systems Association). The present EUROFUSE 2011 workshop is held at Régua, Portugal, 21-23 September, in the World Heritage Site of the Douro Wine Region and is organised by Pedro Melo-Pinto and Pedro Couto. The workshop is devoted to Fuzzy Methods for Knowledge-based Systems. And has the goal to bring together researchers and practitioners developing and applying fuzzy techniques in preference modelling and decision making in an informal atmosphere.EUROFUSE 2011 has three distinguished invited speakers: Francisco Herrera (Granada, Spain), Radko Mesiar (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Jose Luis Garcia Lapresta (Valladolid, Spain). Next to the invited speakers, the three day program consists of 37 lectures. In total, there are 70 participants from 10 countries. This edited volume contains the final revised manuscripts on the basis of which the program was put together.

European and Chinese Cognitive Styles and their Impact on Teaching Mathematics (Studies in Computational Intelligence #277)

The book provides strong evidence that research on the cognitive processes from arithmetic thought to algebraic thought should take into consideration the socio-cultural context. It is an important contribution to the literature on linguistic structure in comparative studies related to Chinese student mathematics learning. This book not only makes a great contribution to research in mathematics education, the findings of this study also addressed insightful approaches and thoughts of understanding the development of algebraic thinking in cultural contexts for classroom teachers. Using written Chinese language from different theoretical references provided wonderful approaches for understanding student algebra cognitive development in a different way and calls educators for to pay special attention to an epistemological and linguistic view of algebraic development. The findings inform classroom teachers that the cultural context plays an important role in student learning mathematics. A typical analysis of the cognitive dimension involved in some in the historical and cultural contexts is a great resource for classroom teachers. I really enjoyed reading this book and learned a lot from its compelling analysis. The European Computer Users Handbook 1968/69, Sixth Edition is a handbook of computers and computer peripherals which could be used in Europe. Details of computers and peripheral devices, including analog computers, calculators, and data transmission equipment, are presented. This book is organized into 10 sections and begins by giving information on digital computers that could be used in Europe based on recommendations by Computer Consultants Limited. Comments on the particular computer manufacturer concerned are included and the particular item of equipment is described. Digital computers, electronic calculators, analog computers, peripheral equipment, and data transmission equipment available in Europe are then listed. The names and addresses of computer manufacturers and selling organizations concerned with computers used in Europe are also provided. Two tables are given: one for computer installations by number, import value, and home built value in sixteen European countries, and another for computer installations in the United States. This monograph will be a valuable resource for both computer users and manufacturers.
