Econometrics

by Badi H. Baltagi

Here at last is the fourth edition of the textbook that is required reading for economics students as well as those practising applied economics. Not only does it teach some of the basic econometric methods and the underlying assumptions behind them, but it also includes a simple and concise treatment of more advanced topics from spatial correlation to time series analysis. This book’s strength lies in its ability to present complex material in a simple, yet rigorous manner. This superb fourth edition updates identification and estimation methods in the simultaneous equation model. It also reviews the problem of weak instrumental variables as well as updating panel data methods.

Econometrics

by Badi H. Baltagi

This book is intended for a first year graduate course in econometrics. However, the first six chapters have no matrix algebra and can be used in an advanced undergraduate class. This can be supplemented by some of the material in later chapters that do not require matrix algebra, like the first part of Chapter 11 on simultaneous equations and Chapter 14 on time-series analysis. This book teaches some of the basic econometric methods and the underlying assumptions behind them. Estimation, hypotheses testing and prediction are three recurrent themes in this book. Some uses of econometric methods include (i) empirical testing of economic t- ory, whether it is the permanent income consumption theory or purchasing power parity, (ii) forecasting, whether it is GNP or unemployment in the U.S. economy or future sales in the c- puter industry. (iii) Estimation of price elasticities of demand, or returns to scale in production. More importantly, econometric methods can be used to simulate the effect of policy changes like a tax increase on gasoline consumption, or a ban on advertising on cigarette consumption.

Econometrics

by Badi H. Baltagi

A thorough treatment of basic econometric methods and their underlying assumptions. This textbook also includes a simple and concise treatment of more advanced topics in time-series, limited dependent variables and panel data models, as well as specification testing, Gauss-Newton regressions and regression diagnostics. The strength of this book lies in its ability to present difficult material in a simple, yet rigorous manner. Exercises in each chapter contain theoretical problems that supplement the understanding of the material. In addition, a set of empirical illustrations demonstrate some of the basic results learned, and all empirical exercises are solved using various econometric software packages.

Solutions Manual for Econometrics

by Badi H. Baltagi

This manual provides solutions to selected exercises from each chapter of Econometrics by Badi H. Baltagi starting with Chapter 2. For the empirical exercises some SAS® programs are provided to replicate the results. Most graphs are plotted using EViews. Some of the problems and solutions are obtained from Econometric Theory (ET) and these are reprinted with the pennission of Cambridge University Press. I would like to thank Peter C. B. Phillips. and the editors of the Problems and Solutions section, Alberto Holly and Juan Dolado for this useful service to the econometrics profession. I would also like to thank my colleague James M Griffin for providing many empirical problems and data sets. I have also used three empirical data sets from Lott and Ray (1992). The reader is encouraged to apply these econometric techniques to their own data sets and to replicate the results of published articles. Some journals/authors provide data sets upon request or are readily available on the web. Other empirical examples are given in Lott and Ray (1992) and Berndt (1991). Finally I would like to thank my students Wei-Wen Xiong, Ming-Jang Weng and Kiseok Nam who solved several of these exercises. Please report any errors, typos or suggestions to: Badi H. The Sustainability of Health Care Systems in Europe (Contributions to Economic Analysis #295)

by Badi H. Baltagi Francesco Moscone

This volume contains an Open Access Chapter The Sustainability of Health Care Systems in Europe provides a comprehensive understanding of the sustainability of health systems in Europe. Furthermore, it includes an introduction to how EU action in supporting health- care policies in the EU Member States, looking both at implemented actions and describing current priorities for the future. There has been a rapid evolution of the structure of society and the economy over the last few decades which has created new demands for healthcare services. This has placed pressure on policy makers to ensure the sustainability of the health care sector. Policy makers understand the efficiency of the healthcare delivery system needs to be improved, the shortage of health professionals must be tackled, and that there are growing health inequalities and inequity in access to healthcare. These challenges are exacerbated by recent economic shocks including the 2008 recession, the uncertainty related to Brexit, and the crisis induced by the COVID-19 pandemic, which have impacted the ability of European health systems to finance the health care sector. This book is a must read for researchers and students of health economics and health policy.

Economic Interdependence and Cooperation in Europe (Studies in International Economics and Institutions)

by Nicholas C. Baltas George Demopoulos Joseph Hassid

Economic integration is the most noteworthy development in international economic policy at the end of this century. Enthusiasm for the European Union has been infectuous. Yet, there are many aspects for the EU that still remain obscure and which warrant further careful scrutiny. The subject of this book is the examination of the inherent economic and political inefficiencies in the transition process of Central and East European countries which are apt to slow down its pace, divert it from its proper course and, in some cases, even endanger its sustainability. The authors of the contributions in this book, economists and political scientists, investigate the applicability of the hyperthesis of mutual benefits resulting from countries in transition becoming open to international trade and investment.

Theorie des Bankverhaltens (Studies in Contemporary Economics)

by Ernst Baltensperger Hellmuth Milde

by Björn Baltzer

The Impact of Climate Change and Sustainability Standards on the Insurance Market

by Balamurugan Balusamy Kiran Sood Simon Grima Peter C. Young Ercan Ozen

The Impact of CLIMATE CHANGE and SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS on the INSURANCE MARKET The book explores the role of the insurance industry in contributing and responding to the harms that climate change has brought. This book delves into the physical and logical impacts, both direct and indirect, on the insurance industry. Subjects discussed include new technology such as big data, artificial intelligence, machine learning, the growth of sustainable economics with foreign direct investments (FDIs), trustworthiness, and ethics. Montageplanung-effizient und marktgerecht (VDI-Buch)

by P. Balve
