- Synopsis
- This page shows three cross section images of stages in the positioning of a stent in a blood vessel. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left, when the image is the correct way up. Each image is surrounded by a dashed line image border. The artery on the left has fatty deposits which have narrowed the width of the vessel which will interrupt blood flow. A stent is a mesh tube and is inserted into the vessel in a collapsed state. In the image in the middle the balloon has been inflated which has opened the mesh of the stent and opened the artery. In the last image on the right the balloon has been deflated and removed so the blood can flow freely.
