Here is an overview of the specialized formats that Bookshare offers its members with links that go to the Help Center for more information.

• Bookshare Web Reader - A customized reading tool for Bookshare members offering all the features of DAISY with a single click of the "Read Now" link.
• DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) - A digital book file format. DAISY books from Bookshare are DAISY 3.0 text files that work with just about every type of access technology that reads text. Books that contain images will have the download option of ‘DAISY Text with Images’.
• BRF (Braille Refreshable Format) - Digital Braille for use with refreshable Braille devices and Braille embossers.
• MP3 (MPEG audio layer 3) - Provides audio only with no text. These books are created with a text-to-speech engine and spoken by Kendra, a high quality synthetic voice from Ivona. Any device that supports MP3 playback is compatible.
• DAISY Audio - Similar to the DAISY option above; however, this option uses MP3 files created with our text-to-speech engine that utilizes Ivonas Kendra voice. This format will work with Daisy Audio compatible players such as Victor Reader Stream and Read2Go.
• EPUB - A standard e-book format that can be read on many tools, such as iBooks, Readium or others.
• Word - Accessible Word output, which can be unzipped and opened in any tool that allows .docx files

Red Grouse (Large Print)

This is a Red Grouse shown from the side. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the right way up. Its head, which is facing to the left, has a short blunt beak. One eye is visible, and above this, is its distinctive red wattle. Slightly down and to the right of the head is the wing. Down from this is the Grouse's chest, and down again are its two sturdy legs. To the very right of the picture its short tail can be found. The Red Grouse is covered with chestnut brown feathers.

Element, Compound and Mixture (Diagram PDF)

I have created this resource for a year 7 student with Achromatopsia. This diagram enables the student to identify the difference between an element (1 type of atom), a compound (more than 1 atom chemically bonded) and a mixture (more than one substance). I hope this helps with resource helps.

Ivan's scheme backfires, however, when he ends up having to look after his grandmother single-handed. This tightly constructed plot revolves around a family drama with a difference. The playscript itself may either be read in class or acted out in drama lessons. The follow-up material explores the 'generation gap' and the issue of old age from many angles, using a wide range of resources and extracts. Students are encouraged to examine stereotyped views of the aged and to think about what it's like being old in society today. Numerous suggestions for improvisation, creative writing, discussion and role play are included. Readership age: 9+.
