This book concludes the Mars trilogy that started with a princess of Mars. John Carter continues the search for Dejah Thoris, princes of Helium. He falls into a trap set by the Thurns but escapes and journeys to Kaol at the equator where he meets and is accompanied by Thuvan Dihn. From there, he then travels to the North Pole where he encounters a race of yellow men. He befriends Talu a ruler of a small principality in Okar. This is the last stronghold of the Thurns. John Carter and Thuvan Dihn then go to Kaddabra where the final plot is enacted. The books chapters are almost a series of near misses. There is a lot of good science or rather what passed for good science in Burroughs's time. John Carter comes close to losing everything but thanks to luck and some coincidences he comes out the victor. One peculiar thing, he seems to be liable to being rendered unconscious by blows on his head. Given the amount of fighting he has done, one would expect him to be tougher than what has been portrayed. written by Pranav Lal
