- Synopsis
- There are two labelled cross section diagrams of mass movement of rock and soil on this page. At the top of the page is a mud flow and at the bottom a landslide. Dashed line image borders surround the diagrams. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the correct way up. Mud Flow: This diagram shows a hill sloping down from the top left of the image to the bottom right. There is a mass of rock and soil on the surface of the hill that has been saturated with water so that it behaves like a thick fluid. It is flowing down the hill with its direction of movement represented by three arrows. Landslide: This diagram shows a hill sloping down from the top left of the image to the bottom right. Two large sections of rocks have become unstable and are sliding down the hill. Their direction of movement is represented by five arrows.
